COVID-19 Response

We understand that many blind students have had reduced access to Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) during the Covid-19 crisis. Independence Science Staff are here to help our customers with any technical support needs via phone, email, or Zoom conference. Please send your request through [email protected].

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Independence Science strongly encourages safe social distancing. We are here to support your hybrid and remote learning needs and are also offering virtual or call in consultation services. We understand that this is a difficult time when many blind students have had reduced access to Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs). Our staff is here in a safe and dependable manner to help with your curriculum and compensatory service needs. Independence Science pledges to keep these services available beyond the pandemic to ensure the widest range of accessibility expertise to meet our customer’s individualized needs.

In addition, we are happy to promote the availability of the VISTAS Education Partners on their free homework help hotline. Several Independence Science staff are volunteers on this hotline at designated times.

Areas of hotline help include, but are not limited to:

·        JAWS

·        Voice Over for MacOS and iOS devices

·        Nemeth and literary braille

·        Cranmer abacus

·        Refreshable braille displays

·        Core Curriculum Subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies) 

Who:

NHH-BVI responders are experienced TVIs, tutors, blind mentors, STEM professionals,  and college students 

How:

Support requests are submitted by email or phone. Volunteer responders provide call backs from M-Fri 11am-9pm EST
