We understand that many students with visual impairments have had reduced access to Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) during the Covid-19 crisis. Independence Science Staff are here to help our customers with any technical support needs via phone, email, or Zoom conference. Please send your request through firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition, we are happy to promote the availability of the VISTAS Education Partners on their free homework help hotline. Several Independence Science staff are volunteers on this hotline at designated times.
We are also happy to promote the National Homework Hotline for Blind/Visually Impaired Students (NHH-BVI) is a free service for K-12 and college students in the United States who are experiencing school closures due to COVID-19.
Areas of hotline help include, but are not limited to:
· Voice Over for macOS and iOS devices
· Nemeth and literary braille
· Cranmer abacus
· Refreshable braille displays
· Core Curriculum Subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies)
NHH-BVI responders are experienced TVIs, tutors, blind mentors, STEM professionals, and college students
Support requests are submitted by email or phone. Volunteer responders provide call backs from M-Fri 11am-9pm EST.
Include the following information:
· student’s first name and grade in school
· specific description of the help that is needed
· telephone number for hotline call back
In addition we wanted to promote that AFB, along with 14 other organizations, is asking you to participate in a study investigating experiences of adults who are blind or have low vision during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey covers areas of healthcare; transportation; employment; education; social experiences; access to meals, food, and supplies; and voting. Thank you for helping flatten the inaccessibility curve. The survey is open until April 13, 8:00am (EST)
